Day 15 - Click image for larger view

Near daybreak a silhouette of Bermuda magically appeared under a hazy moon port side. I had anticipated this moment for many years. My longest open water solo passage to date had been about 200 miles from Tampa bay to the Dry Tortugas. Other open water passages to Cuba, Bahamas and Glavasten, Texas had been with friends aboard. In the mid to late 70's I also made 14 (10 Day - 500 mile) round trips to the Dry Tortugas as Captain/Instructor for Annapolis Sailing School out of St. Petersburg, FL.

I was headed for St. George Harbor on Bermuda's East end. St. George Harbor is a port of entry for small vessels on Bermuda. Cruise ships visit the North West end. A short time later I received a VHF call from the port authority. After switching to a duplex channel they asked many questions from finances to all marine registration numbers, including EPIRB.

Making my way around the SE corner heading North towards the St. George Harbor cut.

Beautifully colored houses are everywhere in Bermuda!

Clearing in at Customs involved some unusual customs, in my opinion. They not only keep firearms, but also flare guns and aerial flares locked up until clearing out.

Anchoring up across the harbor I noticed a few shipwrecks around the harbor. This sailboat ended up on the rocks and a few others looked beat up both at anchor and at a few docks.

In contrast, a few luxury yachts were anchored nearby.

Kids sailing Hobie Cats around the harbor.

Settling in I checked for TV stations. This Bermuda Broadcasting Test was the only one and I don't remember it changing while I was in harbor. I settled in for some much needed rest
