Day 25 - Click image for larger view

Near zero wind since the rain shower passed over yesterday. Southern Light has been running on engine at low rpm's since.

The calm can become madening over time. I keep the mainsail and club footed staysail sheeted in tight to help soften constant rolling from side to side. It's hard on the sails and rigging slapping from side to side but if pulled down she would roll side to side to extremes at times.

Shearwaters would fly ahead, land, and peek underwater for a meal until well behind then take off and repeat all day long. Occasionally one would dive and I'd not seen them return to the surface. Since they can dive a little beyond 200' deep there is no telling where they might pop up and with the engine running I couldn't hear little subtleties as when breaking the surface.

Although still very light to non-existent a slight wind shift from North to the South began to take hold. It slowly increased enough the shut the engine down and sail again.
